Orienteering involves competitive navigation along a course, using a map and compass. Competitors find their way from checkpoint to checkpoint (called controls) in the shortest time possible. So they must decide on the best route and then make it there without getting lost.
Orienteering Team participation is co-ed and open to all cadets. The team is lead and instructed by the Cadet Orienteering team commander.
Orienteering offers Cadets the development of individual skills, team skills in navigating while problem solving to locate each control. Decision making is paramount: Should I go left or right?
Team practice will take place after school hours and most competitions are on weekends throughout the greater Houston area specifically at state or national parks.
