Learning about rifle marksmanship starts with understanding what it is. Rifle marksmanship is defined as: A SPORT SKILL WHERE A RIFLE IS AIMED, CONTROLLED AND FIRED SO AS TO CONSISTENTLY HIT A DISTANT, DIFFICULT, TARGET.
On this team Cadets are engaged in “Three Position Air Rifle Marksmanship” commonly known as 3P Air Rifle Shooting. The Range distance is 10-meters and the air rifles, powered by compressed air or CO2, use “pellets” made of soft lead, 4.5 mm in diameter (. 177 caliber).
Safety—one of the safest youth sports. Safety is Paramount.
All Cadets must pass the marksmanship safety test, and display the safe handling of all equipment before conducting live fire. All Cadets are trained and supervised by the Naval Science Instructor during all practice and competition events.
