Lynch & Muraco
But... what about our two oldest & aging elementary schools?
But... what about our two oldest & aging elementary schools?
McCall is undersized for current and projected enrollment, but the building as a whole is in good physical condition -- unlike Lynch School and Muraco School, which need both classroom additions and renovation/replacement of major systems. The Master Plan estimated the cost to renovate/rebuild Muraco at approximately $45M, and Lynch at $50M, and recommended that the town focus on these two schools in seeking funding from the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA).
In April 2017, the School Committee and Board of Selectmen jointly submitted to the MSBA Statement of Interest forms (SOIs) for the reconstruction/replacement of the Lynch and Muraco schools. The MSBA declined the district’s SOIs in December 2017.
The MSBA application period for 2018 is open now, with a deadline of April 6, 2018. The School Committee voted on March 18th to resubmit the SOIs/applications for both schools for funding consideration. The Board of Selectmen is set to vote on these SOIs at its meeting on Monday, March 26th.
