Course Levels
BASIC LEVEL: AWARENESS
INTRODUCTION:
The first introduction to anyone interested in Mountain Bike Search and Rescue and Emergency / Disaster response may be this "Awareness" level introduction. It is great for experienced Operators who already work in an MBSAR Capacity, Search Managers who coordinate MBSAR and want to know their capacity and also those simply new to the concept and what are the 10 uses and how they may be used (and should not be used.)
Awareness Level is a good basic orientation to MBSAR
How MBSAR can be used and what is required.
No riding required but if you do ride this is useful
More than basic information for those interested
Course can be taken online with a Certificate.
OFFICIAL BADGED LEVELS
Official certificate course levels with the authority to display the badge on personal letter head, website, email header, uniforms or even ID badges. RESPONDER is the minimum standard for event teams, medical responders and working on bikes in basic daylight operations in single terrain (i.e., city, inside airport terminal (medics) events, etc. OPERATOR level is the minimum standard for Mountain Bike Operators in multiterrain environments who may need to go over obstacles (like farmer's fences), downhill or around small berms, through woods and on the roads, repair their bike on the go and perform SAR duties. For most this is perfectly adequate.
INTERMEDIATE LEVELS
1. OBSERVER
Useful for those who may want to know more about MBSAR (Mountain Bike Search and Rescue) how it may be used well and how to Manage such teams if you are part of an Overhead Team (or SAR Manager.)
2. RESPONDER
This level is for single terrain and basic response such as events, medical response and limited riding (Mainly basic response and ICS / Support) and in daylight. This requires the OBSERVER LEVEL PLUS basic riding for those interested.
3. OPERATOR
Fully Operational and comprehensive MBSAR use in varied terrains all times of day. Provides the knowledge, requisite skills for the use of MBSAR . Minimum standard for those who want to deploy on Mountain Bike as useful SAR Operators.
ADVANCED LEVELS
4. INSTRUCTOR I
For those who want to be able to offer the training and certification of this course at any level before (Awareness, 1,2 or 3) and provides further information on what was done in LEVEL 3 plus Didactic / Trainer resources as well as operational skills, knowledge, fitness and leadership.
5. TECHNICIAN
Includes more advanced Mountain Bike and Technical riding as well as technical rescue, rope and watercourses, overnight (camp) and more medical.
