Play for Nature

Play for Nature

This spring, we will be playing for nature with a series of free-family-friendly chamber concerts, a composing orchestra workshop, newly commissioned work and our youth orchestra repertoire. This cycle will highlight new works (including music of Nur Slim, Lauren Bernofsky, and Dena El Saffar), and provide family friendly workshops and masterclasses with internationally acclaimed chamber music groups: Amity Trio and Vinola Trio. "Play for Nature" is sponsored by the Smithville Foundation.

Composer Nur Slim will partner with us for "Playing for Nature." In March, she and Maggie Polk Olivo will lead a "Composing Orchestra Workshop," using elements of nature as the group's muse. Facilitating by both Nur and Maggie, this open-invite orchestra will create an original group composition, recorded and shared with musicians. In April, our youth orchestras will perform Nur Slim's world premiere, a commissioned work made possible by the Smithville Foundation.
