How to use Lichess

1) Click the link https://lichess.org

2) Follow the instructions on the page to create an account. Click “Sign in” and “Register” if you need an account.

We encourage all players to be familiar with Lichess and the platform prior to the tournament.

Please join the NLSCA Chess Tournaments Team Page on Lichess.

1. Click “Community” tab on the lichess main page.

2. Click the “Teams” tab.

3. Search “NLSCA” in the search bar and the group “NLSCA Chess Tournaments” will appear.

4. The passcode to enter the group is 032022.

1) To play a game, your child must challenge the opponent via Lichess. Games will not be arranged automatically.

2) Find your opponent’s name. This can be found in the Google Sheet pairing form.

3) Go to Lichess’ search bar on the top right of the website next to your username. Click the little magnifying glass.

4) Copy and paste the opponent’s name into the Lichess search bar.

5) Their profile on Lichess will appear. Click on the icon with “two swords” to challenge the opponent.

6) To challenge: Select “STANDARD”. Time “REAL TIME”. Minutes “25” and Increment “5”. Select “White” or “Black” according to the pairings. The challenger selects their own respective colour when challenging others.

7) Once the game is completed, players MUST self report their scores to the Google Sheets document. It is the responsibility of BOTH players to ensure that the score is documented correctly. In the event of a dispute, the tournament directors can access the players’ online record on Lichess.

Games that are not accepted or begun by 10 mins after the beginning of the round will count as a FORFEIT.
