About SharkNinja
SharkNinja is a global product design and technology company that is most well known for making in home consumer products like vacuums, blenders, air friers, and beauty devices. The company was a little over 3,000 people when I worked there. During my time in the shark division, I worked on several new product defining features, participated in the 510K approval process and release of the then new CryoGlow mask, and optimized cooling of peltier thermoelectric cooling modules.
Tasks/Projects
Scope: Print and test the ingress protection of the bottom half of the CryoGlow with some team changes to the undercarrage of the mask.
Challenges:
Sealing all of the edges to the observation window
Learning to use the Bambu X1 Cabon
Items Learned:
Hot glue and plexiglass is great to monitor water ingress
The innerworkings of the CryoGlow
Scope: Optimize the cooling potential of Peltier thermoelectric cooling modules with the use of different cold-sinks, heatsinks, and dissipation mediums.
Challenges:
Optimizing each coupled controllable variable and determining useful next steps
Combing through and analyzing all of of my collected data
Items Learned:
Thicker cold-sinks will stay colder than a thinner cold-sink when placed on skin
Airflow over a maximal surface area heatsink will help disperse the hot couple end of the Peltier
Scope: Develop a flow valve to prevent backflow into a SharkNinja products fluidics system.
Challenges:
Limit and neglect fluid flow restriction from implimenting flow valve
Check valves allow flow in one direction but do not stop flow entirely when a pump force is disconnected
Items Learned:
Duck valve testing
O-Ring groove tolerancing
Scope: Develop molds from step files to cast physical gaskets for SnarkNinja product seals.
Challenges:
Learning how to CAD Three part molds
Castaldo puddy binds to clear SLA resin and needs mold release, but doesnt bind to PLA
Items Learned:
Solidworks Surface Features
Using Castaldo Quick-Silicone two part puddy
Scope: CAD, print, and build hinges from ID models to show upper leadership.
Challenges:
Quick part and revision turnover
Fitting 1.5mm wall thickness along each plastic wall
Items Learned:
Create, keep and edit internal bodies in Solidworks Parts
How to move bodies along an axis in Solidworks
Scope: Create new eye gaskets and mask shapes to maximize fit and comfort when tested on possible consumers.
Challenges:
Making all prototypes progressed to the same point to fairly compare to each POC change
Limiting pressure points for all face shapes and sizes
Items Learned:
Light weight masks are key, but an adjustment of center of mass is more important
Working with Import Diagnostics for Solidworks
Scope: Video tape the CryoGlow's LED coverage on a manaquin face with photochromatic paint and maximize LED coverage on the face.
Challenges:
The cooling pads and eye gaskets block LED coverage
LED distance to the face, and lateral spacing help determine even coverage
Items Learned:
Canva movie magic video editing
Specific LED wavelength therapy benifits on skin
Scope: I worked on several other tasks for SharkNinja that are yet to be released, but will detail some challenges and Items I was able to take away from my experience.
Challenges:
Getting all teams on the same page for concepts of a product that isn't released yet
PCB and internal component placement and UI dictating product size
Items Learned:
Concept Generation and New product Iteration
Filled an invention disclosure form for a new part of a future product
Additional Information
I wanted to thank Justin West, Liv Parsons, and Shark Skincare for giving me a chance to work at a hard working team, Eric Motler for being a great mentor and friend throughout my coop, my fellow coops (the Skincare Girlies) for making the experience enjoyable, and everyone who added to my experience and learnings from SharkNinja.
Additionally, thank you to Caity Ross for reviewing and approving this section of my Portfolio for SharkNinja Legal!
