This map was created for a University Assignment where we were tasked with creating a balanced map that could work for the King of the Hill game mode inside of Team Fortress 2. The map itself was made using the Hammer Engine, with it's main theme being a more old western style map, with the main centre piece being the train station. The map design was mainly inspired by the map Badlands a original TF2 map which follows similar design conventions.
The map has been developed through stages, starting from conceptualising the map and drawing out the layout, to create a base level block out and adapting the map design over time to create a more balanced layout that allows each class to be able to excel within different areas of the map. The map itself has gone through multiple iterations, with different aspects being updated based off of the feedback received when playtesting.
The map follows a traditional three lane setup with the main objective being placed in the centre of the map, to offer multiple paths for the player and to make the objective easily located. The three structure has been applied in multiple dimensions as well with three paths being available on the main horizontal plain, as well as having three available paths on the vertical axis as well where the player can go through, over and under the map to reach the objective, each one appealing to a different set of classes to create a balanced experience.
