Directions to Ellingham Hall  

Most of our family will kindly be travelling from the west of Scotland, Tyneside, or Chester-Le-Street, to join us for our special day. And we are honoured that some family and friends are planning to travel from as far as the USA, Canada, London, Portsmouth, Bristol, Edinburgh, Warwickshire, Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Darlington, County Durham and Sunderland! 

Wherever you are travelling from, we massively appreciate you coming to share our special day with us. Please find some information about travel to the venue below. 

Car/Taxi - The village of Ellingham is situated just off the A1 approximately 40 miles north of Newcastle and 10 miles north of Alnwick. The drive time to Ellingham Hall from Newcastle is typically 50 minutes, but depends on traffic. The address of the venue is Ellingham Hall, Ellingham, Chathill, NE67 5EY. There is ample free parking and cars can be parked at the venue for the duration of your stay. 

Bus - It doesn’t seem that the X15 from Newcastle Haymarket to near Ellingham is running on the day of our wedding. 

SHARED TRAVEL:

Some guests when asked did express an interest in buses to/from the venue from the Tyneside / Chester-Le-Street areas for local-ish guests for day and evening if we were able to arrange this. However, we obtained a number of quotes and due to the bank holiday it was unfortunately not feasible to arrange.

We hope guests are willing to car pool, or arrange larger taxis from similar areas. We have set up a website / app page to make this easier for guests to identify other guests planning to travel from nearby. This is the link to the car sharing app:

If you are a guest planning to drive and have space in your car, we would really appreciate it if you were able to offer those spaces to local guests. To do this, click on the link, click on “Add a Trip” and put in your details. Other guests from your area will then be able to contact you by whatsapp/text/phone on the number you’ve provided to take those spaces, and if you agree, they can be ‘allocated’ to your vehicle in the app.

If you are a guest looking for space/spaces in another guest’s car to travel to/from the venue, click on ‘Waiting List’ on the website and enter your name, email address and indicate your preferred departure location. When a car near you becomes available, you should be alerted and you should be able to contact them.

The two nearest main train stations are Alnmouth (13 miles away) and Berwick-upon-Tweed (23 miles away). Newcastle Central Station is 46 miles away and Edinburgh Waverley is 80 miles away. 

There is also a local train station in Chathill, 2 miles (8-min drive / taxi) from the venue. There are only a couple of trains a day to Chathill from Newcastle and they are likely too early / too late to use to arrive on the day of the wedding. However, if arriving the night before, there is a direct train that leaves Newcastle Central Station at 17:57 and arrives at Chathill station at 18:56 on Sunday 24th August. We may be able to collect you from the station (please get in touch), or its a short taxi journey from Chathill station to the venue. Local taxi numbers have been provided on the page about accommodation and taxis. 

There are trains from Newcastle to Alnmouth that arrive at Alnmouth at 9:49, 10:00 and 11:07 for day guests, and 17:10 for evening guests. The venue is 13 miles from Alnmouth station (or a 22-24 minute drive / ride in a taxi). 

The last trains departing Alnmouth to Newcastle are at 20:40, 21:12 and 22:14 on the evening of the wedding. The last direct train to Chester-Le-Street is 20:26 but the 21:12 can also be taken, with a switch of train at Newcastle to be taken on to Chester-Le-Street.

Newcastle International Airport is 40 miles away (~50-minute drive) from the venue.  

Please let us know if you’re flying to Newcastle as we may be able to pick you up or arrange for family/friends to pick you up from the airport, depending on arrival time. Alternatively, taxi numbers are provided on the accommodation / taxi numbers page of the website.
