Graduate Researchers
Diya Dharmendran, M.S.
Diya earned her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Miami and her M.S. in Medical Sciences from Boston University, where she studied intersectional health-related stigma in adults with chronic pain. Drawing from personal experience, her research explores how psychological, social, and cultural factors, especially race and identity, shape pain perception among marginalized groups. She aims to inform culturally responsive policies to improve chronic pain care and quality of life.
Klarissa Lopez
Klarissa is a graduate student in Dr. Mathur’s lab and enrolled in the Social and Personality Psychology program. Her interests include pain, health, and preventative medicine. She hopes to influence public policy through public psychology.

Montae is a Psychology graduate. Attributable to his curiosity with pain management, he aspires to attend medical school to become an anesthesiologist.
Undergraduate Researchers
Bayo Amusan
Bayo is a Biomedical sciences major from Rockwall, Texas. He joined the lab to better understand the factors that result in disparities in pain among humans. Upon graduation, he hopes to one-day study orthopedic medicine.
Eden Barr
Eden Barr is a Neuroscience major from Houston, Texas. She joined the Mother Lab because she’s interested in the correlation between pain perception and heightened anxiety states. After graduation, she hopes to attend medical school and fulfill her ultimate goal of becoming a psychiatrist.
Soumika Kothapalli
Soumika is a neuroscience major from Round Rock, Texas. She joined Dr. Mathur's lab because she was curious about how people from various socioeconomic backgrounds perceive and experience pain differently. After graduation, she intends to attend medical school to become a neurologist.
