The Salt Lake City Math For All Conference has the purpose of strengthening the Utah mathematics community by holding talks and discussions in both research and education. The conference is geared towards undergraduate and graduate students, post-docs, and faculty members from all institutions in the Salt Lake City region. The goal of Math For All in SLC is to provide a friendly, open environment to learn and discuss mathematics. This a satellite conference from Math For All in New Orleans.
University of Utah
(in-person speaker)
Anna Little is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Utah and a core member of the Utah Center for Data Science and AI. She received a PhD in mathematics from Duke University in 2011 and was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Jacksonville University from 2012-2017, a primarily undergraduate liberal arts institution.
Motivated by a desire to focus more of her professional energy on research, she left Jacksonville University in 2018 to complete a research postdoc at Michigan State University. After completing her postdoc, she began a tenure-track position at the University of Utah in 2021. She has been the principal investigator on multiple grants from the National Science Foundation, including an NSF CAREER award in 2025.
Her research interests include geometric and graph-based methods for high-dimensional data analysis and signal processing with group invariant features.
University of Toronto
(virtual speaker)
Dr. Ila Varma (they/she) is an Associate Professor at University of Toronto. They were a Sloan Research Fellow (2020-2024) and have been awarded the Connaught Research Fund (2021-2022). They are also a former Fulbright Scholar to the Netherlands.

Dr. Varma received their Ph.D. in September 2015 at Princeton University under the advisement of Manjul Bhargava and Richard Taylor.
Prof. Varma’s main interests are:
Rehumanizing mathematics (see here)
Arithmetic statistics--in particular, asymptotics of class groups and number fields;

Coming soon!
All conference events will take place at the Crocker Science Center (near Presidents Circle) at the University of Utah. We will mainly use rooms CSC 208, 206.
Parking around the Presidents Circle is free during the weekend.
You can find a map with gender neutral bathrooms in campus using the Campus Map. Please select "All Gender Restrooms" under the Map Features>Accessibility and Safety drop down.
There is a Gender Neutral bathroom on the bottom level (level zero) of the Crocker Science Center building.
There is a lactation room at the Crocker Science Center (located in the basement near class labs and classrooms - next to the women's restroom).
Unfortunately, we do not have funding for child care but we can try to provide names if you are in need of a sitter. Children are welcome!
One of the main goals of Math For All is to create a welcoming environment for all participants. We wish for every participant to feel welcome, included, and safe at our conference. For that reason, we ask you to be mindful of your words and actions when communicating with others. We all have a bias and make mistakes. With an open mind and a willingness to apologize, we can create a safe space for everybody.
Harassment or discrimination of any kind based on race, color, national origin, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression will not be permitted.
Hate speech is not permitted at the conference. We want to clarify that hate speech does not include the criticism of institutions or governments, but rather that of individuals or groups of individuals, and that we welcome uncomfortable conversations that stimulate a growth mind set.
If there is a situation during the conference that makes you feel unwelcome, we ask you to please talk to one of the organizers so we can help you as best as we can.
We acknowledge that this land, which is named for the Ute Tribe, is the traditional and ancestral homeland of the Shoshone, Paiute, Goshute, and Ute Tribes. Native peoples have lived on this land since time immemorial, and the resilient voices of Native Americans remain an inseparable part of our local culture. With gratitude and honor, we acknowledge the indigenous nations that have lived and continue to thrive in all conference locations.
