Faces of  Mathematicians

Image with photos of mathematician titled 'Faces of mathematicians'

In our first edition of Math For All, Kristi Van Dusen created these beautiful posters of women mathematicians.  These posters can be seen displayed in the Mathematics Department at Tulane University.

There are only 17 ways to tile the plane, and every tiling is isomorphic to one of them (Poyla 1927). The groups are classified by number of reflections and centers and degrees of rotations.  There are a couple of mistakes so not all the patterns are exactly correct for the code on the poster.  People who are interested in finding out more can read about it here.
