The Vocabulary Basics

• Sum - The result of adding two or more numbers.

• Addend - Any of the numbers that are added together.

• Difference - The result of subtracting one number from another. How much one number differs from another.

• Product - The answer when two or more numbers are multiplied together.

• Factor - Factors are numbers we can multiply together to get another number.

• Multiple - The result of multiplying a number by an integer (not by a fraction).

• Quotient - The answer after we divide one number by another.

• Divisor - The number we divide by.

• Dividend - The amount that you want to divide up. (dividend ÷ divisor = quotient)

• Repeating Decimal - A decimal number with digits that repeat forever. It's also called a recurring decimal.

• Terminating Decimal - A decimal number that has digits that do not go on forever. Terminating decimals stop.
