Winter 2021 Memories
March 3, 2021 by Matthew Spalding
Winter 2021 was definitely one to remember!
It's the first week in March, but winter isn't over just yet! Spring might be right around the corner, but there's still plenty of snow on the slopes... perfect for some awesome springtime turns! This ski season saw record numbers of visitors. Many people turned towards outdoor recreational opportunities to keep busy during the pandemic. Ski areas across the region enforced a variety of protocols and policies to keep everyone safe and to keep their resorts open during a very difficult time. At Ski Big Bear at Masthope Mountain, a new RFID Axess card system was implemented, which allowed for online ticket purchases and direct to lift access. This eliminated having to wait in line upon arrival at the mountain. This, along with other improvements, made ski season run very smoothly.

Let it Snow!
It's been a few years since we've seen snow like we've seen this past season. A few major storms blanketed our area with some awesome fresh powder, and conditions were prime! Season totals are estimated at over 60 inches. Due to the dedicated snowmakers at Ski Big Bear along with mother nature, the ski area had 100% of its trails open for a majority of the season.

Snowshoeing
With the abundance of snow we received on the trails within Masthope Mountain Community, it allowed us to strap on the snowshoes for some beautiful winter treks! The slopes of the ski area on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (when the mountain was closed) were perfect for getting the heart pumping, and the cross country ski trails on the Falling Waters side of the community were great for a leisurely stroll through the trees.
