Johann Sebastian Bach (born in Eisenach on March 21, 1685, and died on July 28, 1750) was a composer, harpsichordist, Kapellmeister, conductor, organist, teacher, violinist, and violist from the Holy Roman Empire, now Germany. Born into a family with a long musical tradition, he showed talent early on and quickly became a complete musician. A tireless student, he gained deep knowledge of European music from his time and earlier generations.
Bach was a devout Christian and dedicated much of his work to God, often writing “Soli Deo Gloria” (“Glory to God alone”) on his manuscripts. He held various positions in German courts and churches, with his most important roles being Cantor of St. Thomas Church and Music Director of Leipzig, where he developed the most significant part of his career.
Initially influenced by German contrapuntal traditions, he later incorporated Italian and French styles, creating a rich and original synthesis. He composed in nearly every musical genre of his time, except opera, although his mature cantatas show clear operatic influence.
Bach is considered the greatest genius of Baroque music and one of the most iconic figures in classical music. His works for flute, concertos, suites, and sonatas are masterpieces and essential parts of the flute repertoire.

Cinthia Mascolo is an educator, flutist, teacher, and flute luthier, deeply committed to training new flutists and developing educational materials for the instrument.
The Duo Method for Beginner Flutists is designed to teach the transverse flute from the very first steps. The entire method is written in duet form — meaning for two flutes — making it ideal for teacher and student, or for two developing flutists to play together. Hence the name Duo Method.
This method will guide the learner step by step, note by note, through the process of learning this wonderful instrument. Each lesson is carefully crafted with progressive difficulty, taking into account the natural challenges of the flute. By following all the theoretical instructions and practicing daily, students will build a strong foundation and achieve excellent progress.
The method is divided into three parts:
Theoretical introduction – Presents the flute, its parts, and the proper way to play it.
Progressive duet lessons – Gradually develop fingering, tone quality, and sight-reading skills.
A selection of 18 beautiful musical duets – For practice and enjoyment, reinforcing the material learned.

His son Moritz Fürstenau (1824–1889), whom he later sent to study with Theobald Boehm in Munich, was one of his numerous students. Skeptical about technical advances in the flute, he remained faithful to the nine-key flute until his death.
