After playing, it is important to dry the inside of the flute and remove any sweat and grease from the outside caused by our hands.
For internal cleaning, a small cotton cloth or other absorbent fabric is needed.
Thread one end of the cotton cloth through the eye of the cleaning rod and wrap it around the rod.
Disassemble the flute and dry each part separately, starting with the footjoint. Insert the cleaning rod with the cloth from bottom to top, then repeat the process for the body and headjoint.
Always handle the flute with care—avoid holding it by the mechanism.
For external cleaning, use a soft flannel cloth to avoid scratching the flute. Gently wipe the flute, being careful not to touch the pads with the cloth.
The transverse flute is the only wind instrument played laterally, which presents unique challenges in support and balance. Follow the instructions below to develop proper flute balance and body comfort in transverse flute performance.
