There are a few things humans cannot live without. As Maslow’s famous Hierarchy of Needs shows us, humans’ primary needs are physiological needs, which include fresh breathable air, drinking water and food. However, these things are not immediately available on Mars. The Martian atmosphere consists of 95.1% carbon dioxide, and of only 0.16% oxygen. When we compare that to the Earth atmosphere which exists out of 20% oxygen, it becomes clear that humans could not survive on Mars without technologies to help them. Furthermore, the water that is currently present on Mars is in the form of ice, mainly stored under the Martian surface, and can only be accessed by using tools. This section will tell you more about the location of the Martian colony, and about methods and technologies that can be used by the Martians to get access to breathable air and drinkable water.
