Welcome to my Musicianship I: In this class, I explored the art of improvisation, learning to craft melodies and harmonies on the fly while deepening my understanding of music theory and expression. This page features examples of my work, such as improvisational recordings over jazz standards, collaborative group exercises, and unique compositions I performed in real time. Through this experience, I honed essential musical skills, including active listening, rhythmic flexibility, and harmonic awareness, while building confidence as a performer.
This video provides a comprehensive example of work this class required me to learn, in terms of chord identification, scales, and chord inversions and overall piano playing. These assignments were common throughout this semester and were included in the final exam, in the form of different chords and how to play their inversions. This provided a comprehensive basis for piano playing and continued to improve my musicianship, as the final required a piano piece to be played with a melody with both hands.
This assignment provided shows a melody I created for class with a piano accompaniment with it to help gain comfort with piano chords as well as creating a unique melody around tonal centers.
