Finding a Positive Relationship With My Own Health & Wellness
I believe in body positivity at every size, but not necessarily health at every size. From my experience, regular exercise and mindful eating habits have a marked improvement on my overall physical and mental health. To effectively care for the health and well-being of children, I believe it is important for me to have a positive relationship with own health and well-being first.
Dialogic Listening is the only path to true dialogue and understanding. I make conscious efforts to keep practicing this type of communication with my students and in all of my relationships in the school and community.
Social and emotional learning
A lot of my life, I have struggled with my own emotions. I have had periods of my life where I have faced depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma... Yet I have recovered from them all through relationship building, vulnerability, trust and self-reflection. Fostering children's healthy mental development and teaching emotional self-regulation skills are always at the forefront of my teaching. I have advanced study on affirmative and inclusive education, trauma-informed and restorative justice practices within schools. I design my lessons to build towards an inclusive classroom community that respects the inherent worth and value of all.
Building meaningful relationships with my students is the most important factor in their social and emotional learning in my classroom. They need to know that I truly care for each of them and have their safety and well-being as my first priority.
