Peyton's "Say Something" Project
Following a readaloud of Peter H. Reynolds new book "Say Something", I provided my learners with an open writing opportunity to say something on a topic of their own choice. Many were struggling to write something at first. But not Peyton! She knew what she wanted to say and once I read her words, I asked if she would mind if I shared them. I could tell that she was happy that I validated and celebrated her words. I told her that it was "powerful" (weeks later she still mentioned that) and I could see she was motivated and wanted to take further steps to becoming an engaged citizen. Her words also motivated others in the class to come up with some powerful messages of social change.
TEXT TO WORLD
Notice a similarity in the cover art? I happened upon this article in The Chronicle Herald. Making connections to the real world is so important to building civic responsibility and engaged global citizens.
