At the beginning of the school year, our advisor asked for input on a new Padua Media Group logo. After combining a number of ideas a graphic designer created this logo. While I didn't create the logo itself, the end result represented my early understanding of design. Moving forward, the logo also served as a source for our color scheme.
Prior to becoming a social media manager, I had no experience with Canva. However, for the next year, I would have an open tab dedicated to Canva on my laptop 24/7. Over time, I understood the ins and outs of the elements of design through hands-on learning.
In this Salvation Army promotion post, I used their logo and its colors throughout the image. I also added large "Donate Now" text to encourage donation to the cause.
In this Meet the Staff post, I complied images of teh Padua360 staff into one image. I ultilized our school color of yellow. I also used white to balence out the darker tones in the images.
In this meet the staff post, I used the same yellow and white box design with a staff member's picture. I named the staff member and cat's name for a pet edition of the weekly post.
In 2021, I expanded on my design complexity. I added more patterns, color combinations, and fonts to my social media posts. As my skills increased, I was able to prepare posts weeks in advance instead of days.
In this Memorial Day post, I incorporated poppy flowers in remembrance of the sacrifices made by our heroes. This design was extremely challenging due to the lack of curved lettering options on Canva. I had to move and adjust each word to make it appear printed on the banner.
In this Awareness Wednesday post, we addressed the learning disorder of dyslexia. Since red is the color of dyslexia awareness, I tried to utilize it in lighter shades throughout. I also added a picture representation of the disorder to help our audience better understand the written information.
In this Cinco de Mayo post, I coordinated with the Spanish teacher to add both an English and Spanish translation of well wishes for the holiday. I then incorporated bright colors and designs that reflect the celebration and excitement of the day well.
Most recently I designed 3 social media posts to promote the Padua 360 online newspaper for a journalism class. I incorporated the logo's color scheme of black, white, and yellow throughout each post.
While I am no longer a social media manager, my practice with Canva has made an impact on my understanding of design. In fact, these posts took me a fraction of time to brainstorm and execute compared to previous year's posts.
In this post, I created a word cloud with the newspaper's most recent headlines. The bigger the word, the more it was used in article titles. I used a faded yellow and white for the larger lettering to balance with the dark background and bright words.
In this post, I redid my "Meet the Staff" design from 2020 for this year's staff. With fewer members, I had to find new ways to creatively use the space without overpowering the pictures. I decided on a simple faded stripe design.
In this post, I used the original '360' design from the Padua 360 logo. I also added the motto of "your source for all things Padua" within the 'o' to draw attention to it. On the top and bottom, I listed the newspaper sections in different fonts.
Within my journalism class, I learned a new branch of design: infographics. After conducting extensive research and interviewing the school nurse, I created this symptom comparison Venn diagram for my "Padua Plague Strikes Again" article. I felt it was important to represent this information in one infographic rather than dedicating several confusing sentences within my article to try and portray the same information.
