Students develop their own research questions in discussion with the supervisor. Research topics are not assigned mechanically; instead, we combine each student's interests with ongoing projects and the facilities and field sites available in the laboratory.
Depending on the project, students may gain experience in field surveys, laboratory experiments, ecological data analysis, R programming, stable isotope analysis, environmental DNA, drones, remote sensing, and scientific writing.
We do not expect students to have all of these skills when they join the laboratory. The important thing is to learn how to ask questions, collect evidence, analyze data, and continue learning independently.
Students are expected to take ownership of their own research, but research is not carried out alone. We discuss ideas, help one another with fieldwork and experiments, and work together to develop research into presentations and publications whenever possible.
Students interested in coastal ecology, biological production, material cycling, ecosystem restoration, or related topics are welcome to contact us.
International students who are considering master's or doctoral study are also encouraged to get in touch in advance to discuss possible research topics, supervision, funding, and admission procedures.
