Notable Marble Blast Games/Mods

Marble Blast/Marble Blaster

  • The original version of Marble Blast, created by a team at GarageGames lead by Alexander Swanson. Based on games such as Marble Madness, it set down the formula for the rest of the series -- roll your marble through a level, collect Gems, use powerups, and get to the finish as fast as you can.

  • Marble Blast featured 72 levels -- 24 Beginner, 24 Intermediate, and 24 Advanced. Marble Blaster added the level Dive!, increasing the total count to 73.

  • Released in 2002.

Marble Blast Gold

  • The "Gold" version of Marble Blaster. Released as a digital download from various Internet retailers and came pre-installed on most Mac computers at the time of its release.

  • Featured 27 additional levels, rounding the total to 100, as well as the addition of Gold Times for each level -- challenging times-to-beat that only skilled players could achieve.

  • Released in 2003.

Marble Blast Ultra

  • A version of Marble Blast created for the Xbox 360. It was made to demonstrate the power of the then-brand-new Torque Game Engine Advanced.

  • Featured 60 single-player levels, along with the notable addition of Multiplayer -- a mode where players compete with each other online in specifically-made "Astrolabe Arenas" to collect Gems -- the player with the most points after a certain amount of time wins.

  • This Multiplayer mode and all of its maps were eventually ported to PC on InstantAction's website, where it became known as Marble Blast Online.

  • Released in 2006, but was removed from the Microsoft Store in 2011 after GarageGames was acquired by InterActive Corp. Marble Blast Online was shut down in this buyout as well.

Marble Blast Platinum

  • The first full-conversion mod of Marble Blast Gold to be completed. Under the leadership of Matan, Phil, and Jase, development began in 2006, and version 1.0 was released on Christmas in 2007.

  • Initially planned to be a small mod of 20 or so levels, the scope of the project ballooned out as time went on and more people were added to the team. On release, 120 levels were available -- 25 of which were part of a new "Expert" category.

  • After a few years of updates and polish, Marble Blast Platinum replaced Marble Blast Gold as the face of the Marble Blast Community. A multiplayer mode comparable to Ultra's, previously thought impossible in the game's engine, was added in 2014's 1.50 update, coded by Jeff and HiGuy.

  • Replaced by PlatinumQuest upon its release in 2017. Marble Blast Platinum 1.7.42 is the most recent -- and the last --version of the mod.

PlatinumQuest

  • A spiritual sequel to Marble Blast Platinum. Initially planned to be an update to Marble Blast Platinum, development began in 2009.

  • Not much was revealed about the mod until Trailer #1 was uploaded on July 30, 2010 -- a brief montage of levels and mechanics. This marked the formal announcement of the mod to the community. Over the next few years, five PQ Feature Spotlight videos would be uploaded, showing off features such as cannons, ice shards, and water.

  • From late 2013 to early 2015, the mod was considered dead by the community, as most of the developers had left the project to pursue their own interests. Development picked back up in 2015 after Jeff and HiGuy suggested reviving the mod and finishing it as best they could. New developers, such as RDs.empire, Uil, and Threefolder, were added to the team to aid their efforts.

  • Eventually, after three years of near silence on the project, Trailer #2 dropped on February 20, 2016. A demo, containing 15 levels, was released later that year. The full project was released on July 6, 2017, merging with Marble Blast Platinum as version 2.0.0.

  • The mod contained 138 new levels and dozens of new features, as well as controller support, an improved level select screen, and other adjustments to UI. PlatinumQuest is currently the "official" mod of the Marble Blast Community.
