INTRODUCTION
The object of these rules is to enable boats built to the Alan Wright Marauder design to compete together without unfair advantage to any, yet allowing reasonable freedom in the choice of interior arrangements, auxiliary power and equipment to meet the requirements of various owners and other forms of racing e.g. under I.O.R. Rules.
DESIGN
Boats shall be built from the designer's plans.
CREW
There shall be no restrictions on the number of persons on board when racing.
AMENDMENTS TO RESTRICTIONS FOR CLASS
1 Hull. To be built in the spirit of producing a Marauder hull with no intentional deviation or major errors.
2 Cabin. The cabin may be shorter or lower than shown on the plans.
3 Keel. Twin, single or drop keel in any suitable material shall be permitted. Ballast of 2300lbs (1045kg), shall be considered minimum but plan depth and profile and section may not be altered. Any internal ballast must be permanently fixed.
4 Cockpit. Dimensions of the cockpit are optional but it shall be self draining and watertight or a depth of
not less than shown on the plans.
5 Rudder . Profile and cross sectional dimension shall be not less than the designers plan.
6 Accommodation. Accommodation need not conform to the designers plans but the following must be
fitted: - four full length berths built in with bunk fronts
- a functional built in galley unit, which must include sink and 2 burner stove - marine toilet
- the interior layout shall not be intentionally stripped for any race or race series: squabs may be removed for racing but not bunk boards or otherwise
7 Spars. Masts must be deck stepped and mast size and weight must not be less than 5" x 3 5/8" by
measurement including the track and 2.2 lb / ft by weight (or metric equivalents).
Spars may be constructed from any materials.
Fractional rig as per the designer's plans shall be the only acceptable rig. Spinnaker poles not to exceed J + 10% (J = 3 metres )
8 Rigging. Rigging to conform to the designers plans.
9 Sails. Sail linear dimensions shall not exceed those allowed on the design plans No 84 sheet No 2, nor
be less than 150mm of the maximum dimensions with the following exceptions:-
Mainsail battens and headboard shall be according to I.O.R. requirements except that a full length top batten is permitted. Mainsail reefing points to conform to NZYF Cat 4 requirements
Full hoist No 2 is permitted with maximum foot length of 3.4 metres, maximum luff 9.7 metres and maximum leach 8.8 metres
The reacher / spinnaker as shown on the sail plan shall not be allowed for class racing, but may be substituted by a light weight genoa maximum dimensions dimension's being: luff 9.7 metres, leach 8.8 metres, foot 5.18 metres
Spinnaker: the maximum dimensions for spinnaker are luff 10 .6 metres, width 5.94 metres. Spinnaker hoist shall not exceed 500 mm above the hounds as shown on the original plans. Not more than 2 spinnakers shall be carried on board while racing. There shall be no minimum dimensions for spinnakers
Headsails: No roach is permitted on headsails.
10 Compulsory Equipment
A minimum of Cat 4 without life raft or to conform with the sailing instructions of the host club.
Normal mechanical auxiliary inboard unit to be fitted at all times.
11 Weight Any weight required to bring the boat up to the minimum weight shall be divided equally and placed above the water line and be within one metre aft of the stem and one metre forward to the stern. The minimum of any Marauder including all rigging and equipment to Category 4 shall be 3000kg.
The MOA committee may request that a boat be weighed at any time and the weighing shall be carried out within 2 weeks of the request. Should the weighing not be done within this time or should the boat not weigh in at the minimum weight the boat shall not after that time be permitted to race in any race organised or arranged by the MO Association for Marauders to race in as a class. The boat shall not be permitted in any such race until it has resubmitted to such weighing and has demonstrated that it is not lighter than the above minimum weight.
12 Deviations from the original Marauder 8.4 plans, Plan 84 as held by the Marauder 8.4 Owners Association, and the design referred to Marauder 8.4 Spade Rudder, could lead to the exclusion of a boat from Marauder class races at the discretion of the Committee.
13 Boat Inspection Any boat wishing to race as a Marauder within the Association must, if requested by the committee of the Marauder 8.4 Owners Association make the boat available for inspection and measurement to ensure it complies with the class rules and regulations. An inspection fee may be charged by the Owners Association. Inspection Officers shall be appointed by the Marauder Owners Association from time to time.
DISPUTES
In any disputes arising out of the restrictions and/or measurement, the decision of the Marauder Owners Association shall be final.
OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES
Circumstances not otherwise provided for shall be determined by the Marauder 8.4 Owners Association, guided by the policy, constitution and rules of the New Zealand Yachting Federation
NOTE
If a boat does not conform to the above and wants to race in the Champs they may race in the Non - Class division. The committee can make exemptions depending on a review of the yacht's variation.
