14 & 15 April 2018.
The main purpose for arranging this event was to enhance the enjoyment of owning a Marauder.
It was a fun event where everyone got together, had a chat and laugh and a good dose of healthy competition
We had use of the club facilities, such as toilets, showers, lounge and BBQ.
Friday and Saturday evening the pub was open, a barbecue was there to cook on and a salad was provided.
The race was split into 3 divisions:
spinnaker, for the more serious competitors
non-spinnaker, for the more social competitors
non class, to include everyone but also keep it fair.
On Saturday there was 4 windward-leeward races and on Sunday a longer race. This gave some variation and added to the enjoyment of the event.
Many headed to Weiti on Friday afternoon and we caught up just as we were entering the river. The entry to Weiti was fairly straight forward once we knew what pointers to follow. There are a few sandbanks best not to engage with.
We had to come around the outside port marker, fairly close to the small cliffs, then go through the port – starboard markers. Then we aimed for the boats moored up the channel. There is a sandbank on the port side best avoided. We passed the moored boats keeping them on our starboard side, then turned slightly to starboard up the river. Boats are moored on both sides along the river between poles. We found the Weiti jetty to starboard.
(Best way to moor on a pile is to go slowly against the tide, point your nose at the forward pole, engage neutral/reverse, grab the forward mooring line and tie off. The back of the boat will swing with the tide into position ahead of the rear pole, grab the mooring line and tie off.)
Dinghies/taxi dinghies were provided by Weiti so there was no need to carry/tow ours.
Day 1 Hard Yakka
Day 2 Still a bit wet but much calmer
