Marauder 8.4 Owners Association

The Marauders 8.4 Owners Association was formed in 1979 to bring Marauder owners together to promote the class.  The association is still active today arranging several social and sailing events throughout the year.   The highlight of the year is the annual Championships sailed in the Hauraki Gulf towards the end of the summer sailing season, in April or May.

The  association currently has 47 paid up members and we encourage all Marauder owners to join the association.  As a member you will receive invites to all the association activities as well as a copy of the quarterly Marauder Mainsheet magazine.

The association is based in Auckland, New Zealand.  Please see the below for any scheduled events.

The Marauder 8.4 was designed by Alan Wright as a family sailing boat for the Hauraki Gulf.   Back in the late 70's the first examples were constructed in wood until a mould was manufactured.   It is understood over 200 hulls and decks were manufactured in GRP from these moulds however only  80 yachts are known of.   Many of the internal layouts were completed by the original owners so there are several different internal designs.

The Marauders are 8.4 meters long with a beam of 3.1 meters making them extremely spacious for their size.  They have earned a strong reputation as being responsive, safe, fast and comfortable making them a good choice for gulf cruising and round the buoys racing.

Most of the yachts are in and around the Hauraki Gulf but they can be found in Keri Keri,  the  Bay of Islands, Tauranga, Taupo, Wellington,  Waikawa Bay and Nelson.  One or two live off shore in Australia and the Pacific Islands.

Kid Charlmain  circumnavigated the world and Wisecrack, skippered by Bob Wise, sailed in the Tauranga to Mooloolaba Race.   http://www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/news/9959151/Bitten-by-the-solo-bug
