I did a project in how AI is changing cybsersecurity. I tracked down and analyzed two reports from CBS news, showing how hackers aren't just doing basic tricks anymore, they're using more sophistocated tools to mess with people and their businesses.
Article 1: I looked into a report by Ash-Har Quraishi about Iranian hackers using ai scripts to automate attacks and broke down how they use something called email bombing and social engineering (acting like a fake IT helper) to deploy ransomware and encrypt big networks in minutes.
Article 2: I researched a deepfake demonstration by Kristine Lazar at CBS LA. She showed how scammers use AI to swap faces (turning a reporter into Taylor swift) to do identity theft and bybass security systems that were considered not as hackable or vulnerable.
I learned the old school way of spotting a scam isnt enough anymore. What I got out of tit was Hackers don't have to be an expert at coding anymore, they can easily use AI scripts to do all the work, making attacks faster and harder to stop.
Trust is also a vulnerability, as social engineering is still a threat. Whether it's a fake phone call or a deepfake videochat, hackers are getting better at manipulating our emotions to get access to sensitive data.
Basic security such as multi factor authorization and keeping your software's updated is your best friend. IF you aren't thinking before you click or double checking URLS, you're leaving your digital information open.
I didn't realize how much hackers can use old social media posts to build fake IDS/clone someone's identity. Be careful what you leave online!
Overall, this unit was eye opening since it shows us how hackers are now using AI to make more scams more believeable. The most important lesson was the value of zero trust. Double check everything, from URLs to video glitches, and keep your data safe!
