General Purpose
Our Vision
Welcome to the Mancelona Township Library. This library serves our community as a guide to worldwide information, learning, and reading.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide access to information to contribute to the intellectual, cultural, educational, and recreational life in this community. Our library serves all ages, and encourages love of books, reading, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Governing Body
The responsibility for running the library is appointed to two directors, the Library Director and the Children’s Director, who answer to the Mancelona Township Board.
Our Core Values
We believe that reading improves lives.
We believe that the library’s purpose is to provide and support the individual pursuit of knowledge and learning.
We believe that the bedrock of the library service is a collection of reliable sources, preserving the best from the past and keeping current with the new discovery.
We believe that the library should be an institution for civic exchange and a community forum for ideas.
We believe that literacy and the ability to learn are basic tools of economic opportunity and personal success.
We are committed to children, youth, and their families.
We value our patrons, we respect them as individuals, and we benefit from the diversity of cultures they represent.
We believe that the freedom to read whatever one chooses is a right as profound as free speech. We defend that right and protect the privacy of a person’s use of the library as a sacred trust.
We take pride in our responsiveness to the community needs and individual interests.
We strive for equity of access to library services in our community.
We embrace electronic information sources as new tools for extending the library’s usefulness.
We believe that our library is a community anchor, strengthening the community we serve and reflecting the culture of the citizens.
We believe that the library facility should provide space and surroundings conducive to learning as a reflection of the value our community places on education.
