You are invited to submit a video for our first Meet a Mathematician (MaM) Day! 🥳
We will screen some of the submitted videos during the event and all the submitted videos (based on permission level of submitters) will be compiled in a list that can be shared with Bryn Mawr/Haverford community (and beyond)!
Who can submit a story?
Anyone who has a math story to tell! You don't need to be a math major or math faculty to submit a video. If your path passes through our departments, you’re part of this community.
What are the videos about?
We have a list of questions/prompts for people interested in submitting a video for this video collection. We are asking folks to record themselves answering these questions. See the Video Prompts below or this guide for the list of questions.
Why submit a story?
Short, 5-minute videos can help our current and future students to meet role models! This collection would also allow us to keep a small oral history of math at Bryn Mawr and Haverford, and give us a simple way to learn from one another.
What will happen to the videos?
Some submitted videos will be screened at the event during the Community Videos segment, depending on the sharing permissions you choose. All submitted videos that you allow us to share will also be compiled into a video collection accessible to the Bi-Co community.
How strict is the deadline?
Not very -- and it depends! If you would like your video to be considered for the Community Videos screening at the event, please submit it by February 10, 2026. If you are not aiming for the screening, you are welcome to submit a video anytime.
Deadline for community video screening submissions: February 10, 2026
Video Prompts
Feel free to skip a question and answer the ones that you feel comfortable about. :)
Please introduce yourself. You can start with your name, your pronouns and then add anything else you'd like to (additions could be something like BMC ’26, BMC [x] major, BMC math PhD, Haverford math major, BMC/Haverford math faculty, etc).
How would you describe your current relationship to math? What does it look or feel like for you these days?
Can you describe a time where you felt pure joy (or real fun) doing math? What happened and why did it stick with you?
Do you have any challenges you experienced (or are currently experiencing) in your math journey that you would like to share with us?
Do you feel like you found a place for yourself in the math communities you are part of? Did it change over time?
Who has lifted you up (peers, faculty, mentors) and how did that support matter? Have you had chances to lift others up?
Do you have role models (at BMC, Haverford, or beyond) who you’d like to give a shout-out to?
Would you like to share some words of wisdom with our community?
We put together a guide that contains the questions/prompts for your video submission as well as helpful information about how to record and share your video with us.
At a glance:
Length of videos: we recommend to keep the videos at most 5 minutes long.
We expect to screen 6–8 videos at the event (your consent in the Video Submission & Permission Form is needed).
How to submit your videos:
Record your answers using your phone/computer/camera and make sure you have the file on your computer.
Upload your video and get one shrable/viewable link (Drive/YouTube/Panopto). Since it is easier to share a link rather than uploading a video in a form, we are asking you to use one of these (Drive “Anyone with link – Viewer,” Unlisted YouTube, or Panopto with share enabled) and share the link to your recording with us on the Video Submission & Permission Form.
Complete the Video Submission & Permission Form (tell us event-only, Bi-Co access, and/or public).
