Goals and Outcomes

My SMART goal for this class is to be able to understand each topic we learn well enough that I can teach or explain it to someone else. I will know that I have reached my goal if someone asks me to explain one of these topic to them and I hit every important point. Or, if someone doesn't understand or know a topic and I explain it well enough to them that they then have a thorough understanding of the topic. In order to reach my goal, I will take the actions of studying one hour every weekday to help me better understand each new topic. I will use that as my minimum, and study more often or longer if I find certain topics more difficult than others. I plan to accomplish my goal by continuing to study a past topic I don't understand, even when we have a new topic the next week. For example, if we were learning about climate change one week and by the end of the week I still didn't feel confident in how well I understood it, then I would continue studying and asking questions on climate change while we are also learning something new such as glaciers.

My SMART goal for this semester is to not overwork myself and focus on my mental health as I do the other aspects of my life. I will know that I have reached my goal if by the end of the semester I'm not mentally and physically exhausted, and instead feel good about the semester. In order to reach this goal, I'm not going to overbook myself and allow myself free time and time to myself. This means that if I have a long hard working week and then a free weekend, I am going to take this weekend to relax rather than picking up extra shifts at work because my schedule is free, and other things similar. I plan to accomplish my goal by being able to say no when people want me to pick up an extra shift, stay out late when I have to be up early, etc. I will be focusing on not spreading myself to thin. I'm going to make those times to relax and not feel guilty that I'm being unproductive.
