SLO 4

Water Hydrologic Cycle

A simple kid friendly video that explains the basics of the water cycle and how everything is connected

A song about the water cycle to help the students remember the steps, and how it works

The students will glue each part into it's correct space so that the water cycle is in order, and then are able to color it

A fun printable flip book for the students to look back on when they need help remembering their definitions of the different parts of the water cycle

A fun labelled activity where the students put the different parts of the process together, and are able to see the pattern of how everything is connected

The students are able to draw on a clear plastic water bottle that has a bit of water in it, leave it in the sun, and then see how evaporation and condensation occur

Ocean Basins

A video talking about the 5 different types of oceans, and important facts about each of them

A short video explaining everything on our ocean floor and how it works

A short video talking about the three main ocean zones and explaining what each of them is

A fun visual activity the students can put together to better understand the layers of the ocean, helps them see the order they go in. One easier and more simple version of layers, with another one that goes more in depth and is more visual.

The link shows the materials needed such as small water bottles and food dye. This is a good visual to show how the different layers of the ocean actually look because of the blue water, but I would need to remember to have the students label each bottle correctly. Also could use on large bottle and separate all the colors in that bottle

Another ocean layer visual, this one being an outside activity that the kids would draw themselves using different shades of blue and would work in groups

Coasts

Very kid friendly video series all about coasts that explains how everything works in simple words and good connections such as super heroes, and

A bingo game to purchase, although I could make my own that involves more vocabulary words rather than the different animals. Using only animals could be a way to ease the students into learning about the ocean though.

Building an "ocean model" where you have sand and poor water into the bin next to it to see how ocean erosion occurs, either done in groups or the teacher does it once for the whole class to see

Tides

Short videos talking about what causes tides and what they are, the second video only goes until 1:15

A bit more in depth video about the moon and gravitational pull, explains spring and neap tides

No activity here, just a possible visual to show the kids how gravity and the moon are connected to tides

Here is a flipbook that shows the different phases of the moon and how it affects the tides. Each child gets to color and put together their own flip book to take home that shows these phases

A fun activity for the kids to learn about tide pools, using this to introduce it and they can see all the animals when they draw them on.

Waves

Two short videos that both talk about the motion of waves, and the different types of waves and how they move

A video on wave basics and includes a bit on tsunamis

A video explaining how tsunamis are created, nothing graphic and kid friendly

Making waves in a clear water bottle to see how they move, shows a great visual for internal waves. Materials needed are oil and a clear water bottle and they can each make their own
