Description:
I designed a four-year curriculum specifically tailored for minority students, focusing on building identity and community, recognizing cultural diversity, language acquisition, and language performance. The curriculum's primary objectives are to help students accept and respect various cultures and develop essential practical language communication skills. Moreover, I discuss the importance of creating a stress-free classroom environment for multilingual learning, incorporating Total Physical Response (TPR) activities, and understanding the stages of multilingual learning.
This project holds great meaning for me because it underscores the importance of developing culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate curricula and learning plans for multilingual learners. Growing up in an Uyghur-speaking environment, I observed that minority students often faced disadvantages in language learning, which makes me realize the need for a curriculum addressing the unique needs of ethnic minority students.
I have aimed to cover the essential topics and concepts required for a well-rounded education, while also ensuring that the material is presented in a way that is accessible and engaging for students of all ages and skill levels. By incorporating a range of learning activities and formative assessments, I have sought to make the curriculum plan more interactive and engaging, thereby promoting greater student engagement and learning. Ultimately, my hope is that this curriculum plan will one day be implemented in classrooms, making a tangible difference in the lives of students and educators alike.
