Polotsk is a city in Belarus, Vitebsk region. Polotsk is one of the oldest cities not only in Belarus but in Eastern Europe. It was built in the 9th century. It was first mentioned in chronicles in 862. Polotsk was the strongest in the 11th century with Vseslav Charodey at its head. It is situated on the River Western Dvina. More than 80000 people live there. Polotsk is famous for its people: Francisk Scoryna, Euphrosyne of Polotsk, Simeon of Polotsk, Vseslav Charodey. There are a lot of museums in Polotsk: the Nature and Environment Museum, the Museum of Belarusian Book-Printing, the Museum-Library of Simeon of Polotsk, the Children’s Museum, and others. St. Sofiya Cathedral is a symbol of the city. It has a concert hall with an organ.
