This requirement was met by my position of French teacher at Edmunds Middle School in Burlington, Vermont from March 8 - June 21, 2017, a 15 week continuous position.
To augment this experience pursuing the peer review path to licensure, I did a highly valuable teaching internship in February and March of 2019 at Middlebury High School with Michelle Steele. I did this to gain supervised teaching experience at the high school level. While my first French school teaching job was in a private high school in Washington D.C., it was almost 30 years ago. As well, I was the French teacher at the Mt. Mansfield Ski Club & Academy in Stowe, Vermont, at the high school level for a year, however, that was in 2000. Before this, In May of 2018, I set up an internship/observation with Michael Bradbury, French teacher at Edmunds Middle School. I learned much from Michael Bradbury as well.
Regarding my teaching position at Edmunds Middle School, I was hired by the Burlington School District to teach French for the 7th and 8th grades, under contract as a long term substitute teacher. This position lasted 15 weeks and entailed all the responsibilities and duties of a regular classroom teacher. I was mentored by the other foreign language teacher at the school, Sarah Wright and had daily contact with her. Senora Wright, as she is known as the Spanish teacher, was my principal guide for everything from the school's daily logistics, use of the Power Point system, curriculum planning, assessments, meetings, behavioral management tips, grading and more. Moreover, my supervisor, the assistant principal, Katherine Grykien provided invaluable support and guidance.
