New Zealand Age Group Rowing Analysis and Comment 2004 - 2025
The presentations presented here stem from a 2021 call to “plan for growth.” However, the premise that the Maadi Regatta faces a growth problem is debatable. Participation has remained consistently stable over the past 15 years, averaging between 2,000 and 2,200 students. This indicates not a lack of capacity, but a structural limitation. With a firm commitment to effectively controlling the number of events each student may enter, overall participation could be significantly increased—potentially doubled—without compromising the integrity of the regatta.
2024 - The School Committee of RNZ has asked organisers of the three main school championships to limit entries to three events per rower. Data analysis suggests that this move will have very little impact on the time taken to run the regatta. Lets hope that this move is effective.
