SOTA Linked dipole calculator (Excel)
I have recently used this calculator to build a 4 band linked dipole and have been pleased with the results. Click here to download the SOTA Beams Excel Calculator needs a suitable spread sheet program to open but should be compatible with any that open MS Excel files.
If like me my first Yaesu FT 817 was restricted to 7.0 - 7.1 MHz the old UK Amateur allocation so needed to be opened up to use the full 7.0 - 7.2 MHz. There is a software route which is fairly straight forward to carry out but it only works on the non ND version plus if you have to carry out a Reset you would have to re-run the software wide banding procedure again.
A better solution provided you have good eyesight and a steady hand with a soldering iron is to carryout the hardware mod which call for dismantling of the display section and the removal and addition of some solder pads. Click on the Wide banding FT 817 button below for full details of the official Yaesu method.
