I am not that into contesting but occasionally I will take part if time allows.
RSGB IOTA July 30th & 31st 2016
Only a token attempt to try out my new TS 590sg. The conditions were not good but did manage some new locations, 2 from Isle of Man and Aland Island.
RSGB AFS Contest 16-01-2016
Conditions were not ideal but there were plenty of local QSO's to be had. Only a token score but good fun from the warmth of the shack.

Octorber 24th & 25th
This weekend saw the band come alive with DX'ers around the world on air for the;
CQ Worldwide DX Contest, SSB
I missed this last year so this was my first experience of the bands going wild. Although I was not competing I enjoyed the challenge and even managed to break a few pile ups.
My tally for the weekend was:-
Antigua & Barbuda, Austria, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, European Russia, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Madeira Is, Morocco, Qatar, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan.
These were made using my Kenwood TS440 through my inverted L mostly on 10 & 15m, (who says a wire does not work).
September 6th 2015
5th Back Packers Contest.
Great weather for this contest, sunny and warm with a light breeze couldn't have asked for a better day to spend playing on the radio. This was my second outing using my home built Yagi managing 30 QSO's over the duration of the contest. The 2m field day was also running so contacts were coming in thick and fast. Best contacts were 3 from France, 1 from Belgium and a few from Wales. Looking forwards to next years Back Packers.
August 1st 2015
4th Back Packers Contest.
The conditions were not ideal but the WX was good, cloudy with bright spells although a little windy at times, usually peaking at the start of each new QSO. I did slightly better this time with 17 QSO's over 3 hours, well still not going to win but I did learn how difficult it is using a paper log when it's windy.
July 5th 2015
3rd Back Packers Contest.
I took part in my first radio contest the 3rd round of the RSGB Backpackers 2m. Loaded up with my FT817, 12AH SLAB, Moonraker 4 element yagi and a modified extending paint roller pole I pitch up at a high spot (44m ASL) just outside of the village of Boxworth in Cambridgeshire IO92xg I could only spend 2 hrs as the XYL had arranged a family meal at the local pub to celebrate my grand daughters 6th birthday. This was my first experience of using my beam and it surprised me when stations from Wales and Scotland come in with 55's. Ok I am not going to win a medal with 15 QSO's but I did enjoy the experience and leaned something that should help next time, take a cooler bag and some brown bottles.
