M. Dolores Basallote is a Ramón y Cajal Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences of Andalusia (ICMAN-CSIC), where she is part of the Ecotoxicology, Ecophysiology, and Biodiversity of Aquatic Systems (EEBAS) research group, attached to the Department of Ecology and Coastal Management.
PhD in Marine Sciences and Technologies (University of Cádiz 2014, Doctoral Award), CAPES Foundation granted postdoctoral researcher at the Instituto do Mar at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP, Brazil), and postdoctoral researcher at the Environmental Mineralogy and Geochemistry group at the University of Huelva (UHU) upon the competitive calls Juan de la Cierva Formación (2016-2018) and Incorporación (2020-2023) programs, and at the Department of Ecology and Coastal Management at the ICMAN-CSIC upon the EMERGIA (Junta de Andalucía) Talent Recruiment program (2023-2024).
My research activity could be divided into three different main research lines; i) ecotoxicological studies to evaluate the effects of climate change on the marine environment and organisms, ii) environmental assessment of metal/loid pollution in aquatic systems affected by anthropic activities and iii) valorization of industrial and mine wastes. This activity has been carried out in different research groups from renowned centers both national and international such as the Ecology and Coastal Management group (EEBAS RNM306) from the Andalusian Institute of Marine Sciences (ICMAN-CSIC), the Contamination of Aquatic Systems (COSA RNM375) at UCA, the Instituto do Mar at UNIFESP (Brazil) and the Environmental Mineralogy and Geochemistry group (THARSIS RNM198) at UHU. I have completed my international research experience with pre- and post-doctoral research stays in centers of international prestige, NTNU (Norway), UP (United Kingdom), UNIFESP (Brazil), Universidad Andina del Cusco (Perú), and University of Bayreuth (Germany).
Recently, I have participated in the Spanish Antarctic Campaign as part of the DICHOSO project (Contribution of water masses of Deception Island to biogeochemical inventories of the Southern Ocean: current budgets and future trends), contributing to the study of biogeochemical budgets in the Southern Ocean. This research experience is further complemented by a research stay in Canada, at the UQAT, between the Institut de recherche en mines et en environnement and the Institut de recherche sur les forêts under José Castillejo grant.
