Project 3:
Games in the Classroom: a Civics Escape Room
Games in the Classroom: a Civics Escape Room
OVERVIEW:
For this project, I created a brief civics based escape room. While there are only 7 questions currently, more can easily be added once I am given the new civics curriculum. I would consider using this escape room as an introduction to civics to evaluate how much students know. To complete this evaluation, I would have students record how many tries it takes to unlock each clue, and collect that sheet for data purposes. The winners would be the ones to receive the “governing documents”. They also have bragging rights for being the first to “save the government” by finding out where the “governing documents” are being held by the British. Students are able to revise their understanding because the clues will not unlock until they have a correct answer. In addition, I provided hints for students to use if they get stuck on a particular question. In regards to a debrief, I can ask students which questions they struggled with the most, and which topics they want to learn more about. Having this information will allow me to shape future lessons and activities to reinforce the information students are struggling with or are curious about.
