Child Passenger Safety Law..

Vermont Law:

All infants, under 1 year old and less than 20 pounds, must ride rear-facing in an approved child restraint. Infant seats must not be placed in front of an active air bag.

All children up to the age of 8 must ride in an approved child restraint.

All children ages 8 to 18 must ride in an approved child restraint or safety belt system.

The easier-to-understand version:

Children who are not both 1 year old and 20lbs must rear face. Both milestones must be reached in order to face forward. NEVER put a rear facing child in front of an airbag. Rear facing longer is safer for your child.

Children under 8 must ride in a child safety seat. Children over 8 must fit properly into the adult seat belt in order to use it.

Our law here in Vermont is a minimum standard. Best practice will ensure that your child is as safe as possible.
