In Memory of Charles A. Blizzard
CHARLES A. BLIZZARD
EASTON — Charles Andrew Blizzard of Easton passed away on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at his beloved childhood home in Trappe due to complications of a chronic illness. He was 46.
Born on April 29, 1967, in Easton, the son of Charles and Sally Blizzard, Andy, as he was affectionately referred to by friends and family, grew up in the Jamaica Point area of Trappe, where his parents still reside today. Andy attended Talbot County schools, graduated from Easton High School in 1985 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Maryland in College Park in 1989 and was just shy of receiving his master’s degree upon his death. As a child growing up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, playing with his cousins on their grandparents’ farm, hunting deer, duck and geese, archery and most anything relating to the outdoors.
Andy was very talented and creative. At the age of 14, he studied and practiced taxidermy. He came from a long line of talented duck carvers and jewelers, and Andy’s displays of various animals indigenous to the Eastern Shore were on display for several years at Horn Point Laboratory in Dorchester County. Andy shared his love for the beauty of the area with his children, both through hiking local trails as well as expanding hiking with them as they grew older in other locales, pointing out and educating them to various animals, plants and the wonders only found in nature.
Andy was an entrepreneur, earning a patent at the age of 18 for his invention of a laser sight for bow-and-arrow hunting. Andy also was the owner of White Marlin Designs Inc., a company that further utilized his talents and love for the ocean. He painted large, life-size fiberglass fish for many of his customers based on pictures of their catch-and-release tournament trophies. Several of his fish can be seen on display in various restaurants and clubs both in Ocean City and other locations across the country.
Many of Andy’s friends remember him for his entertaining ways and eagerness to cook for company. He was very talented at coming up with full-course meals at the last minute for friends who would drop by just to say hello. He was always stationed at the grill, whipping up a last-minute, impromptu meal for anyone who could hang around long enough to indulge. He loved cooking for company, neighbors or anyone who popped in.
He also loved to get a rise out of anyone who was least suspecting of his many practical jokes. Andy was generous without fault and loved to help people when they were in need. He accompanied his family with enthusiasm to feed the hungry on the western shore on occasion. When hunting, he would take deer to Dorchester County to feed the hungry. He would rescue any stray animal he found. As mentioned by several who knew him, he would have made an excellent veterinarian because he had such a love for animals. He is survived by his four dogs, a cat and an iguana, all of which he played a major role in acquiring.
Upon graduating from college, he was employed by CellularONE in Greenbelt. He lived in the D.C. area but came back to the Shore as often as possible. Andy lived in Annapolis for several years, commuting to and from Greenbelt until an opportunity within the company became available and he returned to the Shore.
Andy also had worked with Reliable Pharmaceutical Company based out of New Jersey for several years as the local pharmaceuticals representative for the Delmarva area. Until his health began to fail, Andy was the sole owner and president of Hiring Authorities Inc., a recruiting firm for medical device, pharmaceutical and engineering companies.
Andy married the former Elizabeth Blair Brown, daughter of the late Dr. William A. Brown and the late Isabel L. Brown, of Easton, on Aug. 31, 1996, at Holy Trinity Church, Oxford.
He is also survived by his 17-year-old son, Christopher Austin Blizzard; and 13-year-old daughter, Catherine Allison Blizzard. Andy is survived by the following aunts and uncle, Julian and Dorothy Nave and Faye Nave of Trappe, Cora Sue Cheves of Jackson, Ga., and Diane Blizzard of Salisbury; and the following local cousins, Patty (Phillip) Tindall and their children, John (Christa) and Stephen (Lauren) Tindall, Jay H. Nave (Diane) and their children Jared (Grace), Joel, Kara and Katelyn Nave, and Julie Tindall and her children, Nicholas (Cheri), Matthew (Sarah) and Ross (Etta) Tindall; and cousins living across the country, Jackie Kreutzer (Ernie), Daniel (Carrie) Nave, Michael (Lee) Nave and Lora Lee (Larry) Morgan, Nancy Ann Cheves and Adam (Danielle) Cheves. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Charles and Isabelle Blizzard of Salisbury, Isaac and Leona Nave; and an uncle, Jackson M. Nave, of Trappe.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at his home church, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Ave., Easton, on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at 5:30 p.m.
Private inurnment services at Oxford Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Talbot Humane Society 7894 Ocean Gateway, Easton, MD 21601, or to the Lyme Disease Association, P.O. Box 1438 Jackson, NJ 08527, or “Blizzard Children Education Fund,” c/o Talbot Bank, Attn: Amy Hutchinson, 18 E. Dover St., Easton, MD 21601.
