OUR CLUB DEPENDS ON VOLUNTEERS
As you might guess, the wood shop operates with the help of a lot of volunteers - from our daily monitors to those who make certain our supplies such as sandpaper, glue, saw blades, etc. are always available for projects. Even our first aid items for cuts and scrapes are maintained by a volunteer. Leisure World does not supply the wood shop and we do not receive an operating budget from them! Everything is bought using our club funds. We need woodworking club members to ‘adopt’ a piece of equipment. See Ira Leibowitz for information on this process.
We need each club member to create at least one item to be sold at the craft fairs. The money generated from these craft shows ends up in our general club fund. It is used to purchase supplies, repair equipment and replace aging equipment.
All members of the Woodworking Club should ask themselves “Have I made anything yet this year for the Club?” “What can I do for the Club as an active member?”
The second Tuesday of each month from October through March our club meets in the theater at 7 PM located at recreation center number one across from the fiber atrs center. During these meetings reports are given by the club board members and upcoming events are discussed.
During some of these meetings, we have classes, demos, quest speakers and our "show and tell". Members are asked to bring in items they have created for other woodworkers to see. We encourage all members of the woodshop to attend these monthly meetings. A lot of great information is discussed, and we need your support. Meeting reminders will be posted.
We have two Incra miter gauges in the shop. They are very accurate and will help you make precise cuts on the table saw. They are located on the wall behind the saws.
