We welcome you to our courts and would love to have you become a member of the Leisure World Tennis Club and join us in our leagues, invitationals, in-house tournaments, group round robins, casual tennis, and our many social events. Please see the brief summaries below of the many activities available to our members.

Leisure World is fortunate to have one of the premier tennis facilities in the East Valley. We take pride in showing it off to tennis enthusiasts who are searching for a place where quality facilities, make a difference, in helping them reach their tennis or social goals. The ample number of courts and amenities also provide our club
with a place that fosters learning opportunities, friendly competition, fun, meeting new friends, and a chance to share our passion for the game.
Facilities Include:
Eight (8) beautiful courts - four (4) of these are lighted.
Two (2) additional courts located northwest of the Rec 1 complex.
An air conditioned building in the center of the complex that we call the “Courthouse.” It houses a kitchen, storage areas for 4 ball machines, teaching carts, and court cleaning equipment.
An elevated pavilion just to the south of the courthouse, allows ample space for members/guests to watch matches, conduct club/team meetings, and gather for social time following play.
We have an updated “gathering area” where friends/guests can enjoy socializing, talking tennis, or sipping a cool beverage. More importantly this area will foster friendships for a lifetime. This space was created by re-locating a storage building to the backside of our complex.
Covered bleacher areas, adjacent to the courts, provide ample seating to watch matches during the many tennis activities we provide throughout the year.
We would be happy to give you a tour of our facilities. Just call our Membership Chair, Fran Dusek, to set up a date and time.
The tennis facility may be easily viewed as you enter the Power Road entrance on the East side of Leisure World.
There are three types of membership, with dues covering the period of one year from October 1 through September 30. There are no part-year dues. Dues paid after April 1st will constitute full payment for the current year and the next year as well. They are assessed annually and due on October 1.
1. A FULL (playing) membership entitles a member to all benefits of the Club; dues are $70.
2. A SOCIAL (non-playing) membership entitles a member to Club social activities; dues are $15.
3. An HONORARY LIFETIME membership is bestowed on a member for exceptional and lengthy service to the Club, and entitles that member to all the benefits of the Club and the waiver of membership dues.
Note: When a “first time” new member pays full membership dues after February of the current year, they would receive full membership privileges through to November 1 of the next year.
Questions on membership may be addressed to our membership chairman, Fran Dusek, (see Contacts Page ). Membership application and dues payment instructions are available in the Courthouse and on our website (i.e., How To Join LWTC). Additional membership information exists on our Bylaws and Policies Page.
The Tennis Club hosts monthly business meetings between October and April, normally on the second Wednesday of the month at Rec. 1 or Rec, 2 or on the tennis pavilion at 4:00 p.m. The Annual Meeting is held in March.
All members are encouraged to attend as the agenda items impact all members and provide an opportunity for you to give valuable input. The agenda usually includes officer/committee reports, information on tournaments and upcoming events, discussion of Club policies and procedures, and business requiring a membership vote. Beverages and snacks are served following the meeting as a way to encourage and enjoy social time for members.
The Tennis Academy provides FREE lessons for all LW residents, regardless of club membership. It is designed to teach beginners the basic skills of the game. The recent addition of advanced players (2.5-3.5 levels), has been well received as it provides the opportunity to enhance not only their skills, but a chance to work on doubles strategy and consistency of play. This year, the academy will provide informal ratings for new players who need a rating for GRR, EVSTL Rec play, Tournament play or Club Invitationals.
Group lessons take place from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. every Wednesday, starting the first week in November, and ending the first week in March. Players may join at anytime during this period. Special “fun,”playing events are usually held during holidays where players are paired up for social play followed by a “HAPPY HOUR” on the pavilion.
The Tennis Academy is directed by Marge Willadsen, PTR Instructor in Adult Development and former collegiate player and coach. A very enthusiastic staff of advanced level players assists with instruction and provide an atmosphere of fun, friendship, and learning. We encourage you to come check it out so we can share our “love of the game” with each of you.
For more information, go to the Tennis Academy Page and/or contact Marge Willadsen (see Contacts Page ) or check the bulletin board at the courts.
New members wanting to play in the EVSTL League, Group Round Robin, Tournaments, or Invitational play, will need to obtain a 'Club Rating'. A rating is not critical or threatening; it is simply a means to place you in matches with other players of similar skill levels.
Players who participate in EVSTL, Group Round Robin, Tournaments, or Invitationals, are required to have a Club Rating. Players may obtain a Club Rating via an “on court evaluation” by the club’s rating committee or in some cases during informal tennis academy play. No rating is needed for social or Potluck/Drop-in play.
For more detailed information on the rating requirements for each of the above activities, please refer to the 'Club Rating Page' menu options on the left side of the LWTC web site.
Drop-In tennis offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy playing where the goal is to have fun, meet new friends, and gain valuable playing experience. A club membership is not a requirement. It takes place from October 1 through April 30 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Courts are reserved for doubles play Monday through Saturday. Play includes both women and men, regardless of skill level. After playing four games on a court, players rotate out so that waiting players can rotate in. More importantly, it’s fun and a good way to start your day!
Group Round Robin play provides an opportunity for all LWTC full members to play organized, social tennis with a group of players at their level and gender on a weekly basis. Play is scheduled from November through April. All players are required to have a club rating to be placed at the appropriate level of play to help insure like playing abilities. Players sign up weekly on the Court Reserve registration site. Each playing level will have a coordinator who will organize play. There is no fee for Round Robin play. Players occasionally move up or down a level as life circumstances change that may influence our skills and competitive prowess. Get involved today! This is one of our most popular events!
The Group Round Robin Director is George Hildebrandt (see Contacts Page ).

Invitationals and Tournaments are opportunities to play matches against players from other area tennis clubs. They provide a fun way to meet and play new people either in a social or competitive atmosphere.
Invitationals are played with at least one other Club, hosted by either the LWTC or by the other Club we are scheduled to play. Invitationals offer a less competitive social atmosphere of play. Play occurs on a Saturday with opportunities to play Men’s, Ladies, and/ or Mixed Doubles. There is no charge for playing, but you must be a FULL MEMBER to play. The host club provides the tennis balls, food and beverage selections.
Tournaments are often provided for those wanting a more competitive challenge where winners are determined for each flight played. Various East Valley clubs sponsor these tournaments throughout the season with each one having their own entry requirements. Entry fees are typically required. Examples: Annual Venture Out Fall Classic, LW Veterans Classic, SVE Holiday Mixed Tournament, Mesa Regal 1.5 Breakout, etc

Leisure World, along with 15 other East Valley parks, participates in the EVSTL. Matches against each of the league's teams are scheduled weekly and includes all skill levels. Teams have a captain who organizes practices and matches up playing partners for each week’s play. This year play begins on October 31st and ends March 3rd, with a two week December holiday break. This is a great opportunity to meet and play friends from all of the East Valley communities. Players must choose which option best meets their desired competitive level of play.
There have been many changes and updates concerning guidelines for EVSTL play. Please access EVSTL.net for all of the latest and most complete guidelines. A condensed version of the guidelines may be found on our club website menu.

The Club hosts a number of parties, dinner dances, and other events throughout the year beginning in October and concluding in March. Different Club EVSTL teams are charged with the responsibility to plan and host an event. Dinners can be catered, prepared by the hosting teams, or potluck. Dinner dances usually begin with a social hour (BYOB), followed by dinner and a dance with music by either a live band or a DJ. There is a separate fee for most social events, and payment for these events should be put in an envelope marked with your name(s), the designated event, and placed in the drop box on the east wall of the Court House. These social events are great fun, and are a perfect way to meet and make new tennis friends. Member guests are welcome.
