As part of the MPU3222 course, we were tasked with starting a business and generating profits, not just for financial gain but to develop valuable skills in marketing, financial management, and customer engagement. This project gave us a hands-on opportunity to experience what it takes to run a business successfully.
Our journey began with brainstorming a business name, creating a logo, and clearly defining our business concept. I quickly learned that clarity is key—customers need to know what you’re offering, where to find you, and when you’re open. To enhance accessibility, we ensured multiple communication channels, like WhatsApp and social media, were available for our customers.
One of the most valuable lessons was understanding our customers’ needs and solving their problems. For instance, clearly listing prices upfront avoids hesitation and builds trust. I also developed my photography and editing skills to create appealing visuals for our products—a skill I now recognize as essential in today’s market. Using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) was a game-changer. It allowed us to map out key elements of our business on a single board, making it easy to spot and fix issues. Applying this tool in a real-world setting reinforced its importance and helped us strategize effectively.
Marketing strategies were another area of growth. Before launching, we researched our target audience to align our products with their preferences. From branding and packaging to pricing and promotion, every detail was carefully planned. Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp became essential tools for communication, and I realized the importance of attractive visuals and compelling copywriting to capture attention.
Financial management was equally critical. Recording every transaction helped us monitor cash flow and ensure financial stability. I also learned the importance of teamwork—sharing responsibilities evenly among members not only eased the workload but also unlocked our collective creativity.
In the end, this project taught me much more than I anticipated. It gave me the confidence to explore entrepreneurship further, and I am now inspired to use these insights to start my own business in the future.
