I look forward to reflecting on my first year of tenure-track faculty member exprecience at the conclusion of the academic year in order to set goals for the following year.
In my commitment to student equity and social justice, I will continue to take advantage of every opportunity available to me that will enable me to support a diverse student population such as joining governance committees, getting involved in Academic Senate and continuing to step up for liaison positions when needed. As a Counseling Faculty member, I will continue to center the student voice in curriculum development and counseling services that will ensure access, equity and completion. Additionally, I will continue working towards improving the educational outcomes of Mt. SAC students who fall in the equity gap. It is my English Language Learner, low-income, first-generation, undocumented Latina immigrant background that nourishes my desire to offer students academic and personal support in order to facilitate their academic achievement. Ultimately, through my counseling practice, I will continue to work towards improving the experiences of educationally disadvantaged students, using my personal background as a testament demonstrating how my community cultural wealth helped me succeed in college as a historically underrepresented student.
