Josephus Problem

City: Lahore

School: GES Charrar

Two senior students, Abdullah Ahmad and Arhum Khawaja conducted a Math Circle session on the "Josephus Problem" and other related combinatorial games at GES Charar Lahore. The students enthusiastically took an active role in understanding the game and developing the patterns needed for a combinatorial understanding of the Josephus Problem.

While the introduction to the topic, problems and games initially seemed to be daunting, we worked together to gain a better understanding, trying to understand patterns through repeated trials. Through this interactive hands-on approach, the students were able to identify themselves, the solution behind the problem and were able to successfully identify the winning position for a Josephus circle of any length.

To conclude, we played and understood the pattern behind the Birthday Guessing game and students were given a brief flavor of binary and number systems.
