Introduction

LUMS Math Circles is a non-profit program initiated by the Department of Mathematics at SBASSE, LUMS, in 2021, with the objective to provide an interactive platform for school students to explore the complexities of mathematical thinking, promote a culture of mathematical exploration, and inspire a passion for knowledge. Unfortunately, there is a common misunderstanding of mathematics, and these Circles aim to transform the common perception of the subject. By broadening the learning horizons of students, it aspires to provide an immersive, rigorous, dynamic, and transformative experience.

These Circles encourage mathematical exploration outside the classroom, enabling teachers and students to delve into concepts beyond the typical school curriculum. Participants are engaged in activities such as problem-solving and mathematical modeling, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject. Our CIRCLES take place every alternate Friday at LUMS and are designed to be independent of school and university syllabuses, making them accessible to students of all backgrounds. Our goal is to make math more approachable and enjoyable and inspire young minds to explore and embrace mathematical learning enthusiastically.

Our team of LUMS Math Circles is dedicated to spreading the love of math to students across the region. In addition to hosting regular math circles on campus, we also visit different schools to hold math circles with students of all ages. We engage students in fun and interactive activities, encouraging them to think creatively and critically, During our math circles. We believe that math is more than just a set of formulas and equations—it's a way of thinking that can be applied to many areas of life.

Our core objective is to stimulate a culture of flourishing mathematics interest among school kids in Pakistan.

Mathematics is one of the most misunderstood subjects; we aim to revive the distorted perspective of mathematics at the grass-root level. Through these Circles, we rejuvenate the enthusiasm for mathematical learning and increase students' interest in learning mathematics. Our interactive activities allow students to fight their fear of being wrong in mathematics.

These Circles are an excellent way to delve deeper into the fascinating world of mathematics. They provide an opportunity for individuals to explore mathematics beyond the traditional classroom setting and cover a wide range of topics that cater to different interests and abilities. These circles cover a broader aspect of mathematics, not just from a theoretical perspective but also from an applied perspective. They emphasize the role of mathematics in various fields, such as artificial intelligence, neural networks, physics, computer sciences, electrical engineering, chemistry, and biology.

By exploring the application of mathematics in these fields, participants gain a deeper understanding of the real-world impact of mathematics. For instance, in artificial intelligence and machine learning, mathematical models play a crucial role in the development of algorithms that enable machines to learn and make decisions. In physics, mathematics is used to describe and predict the behavior of physical systems, while in chemistry, mathematical models are used to understand the behavior of molecules and reactions.

Math Circles also provide an excellent platform for participants to engage in problem-solving activities and critical thinking. These activities encourage participants to think creatively and approach problems from different perspectives, which are essential skills in any field. Moreover, Math Circles promote collaboration and teamwork, which are crucial in the modern workplace.
