Exploration of Algebra

City: Sukkar

School: Rohri school, Jani Buriro school, and IBA Sukkar

Dr. Adnan Khan and Dr. Saad Qadeer conducted two engaging LUMS Math Circles in Rohri and Jani Buriro schools, igniting mathematical curiosity among the students. Their educational odyssey extended to IBA Sukkur, where they not only facilitated a Math Circle but also delivered a compelling public talk, amplifying the reach of mathematical exploration.

Government Girls High School in Jani Buriro: Captivating an audience of approximately 30 students spanning grades 6 to 8, the session unfolded with an introduction to knot theory, paving the way for an exploration of algebra, binary numbers, and greatest common divisors through captivating conundrums. As a parting challenge, students were tasked with a coin flipping exercise, leaving them with a tantalizing mathematical puzzle to unravel.

The mathematical journey continued at the Loco Shed Government Girls Elementary Lower Secondary School in Rohri, where a parallel experience awaited another group of enthusiastic students. Introducing them to a summation trick, the Collatz problem, and Nim's game, the team left the students pondering the Three Fishermen problem as a compelling take-home challenge.

The crescendo of the outreach activities reached its peak at Sukkur IBA University (SIBAU), hosting a two-hour event that captivated over 80 participants. Teaming up with Dr. Fazeel Anwar from SIBAU, the trio delved into mathematical wonders such as the Collatz conjecture, the coin rotation paradox, and Nim's game. The participants embraced the challenge posed by the Three Fishermen problem with unwavering passion and enthusiasm, showcasing a commendable dedication to mathematical exploration.

Dr. Saad Qadeer also gave a public talk titled "Normal modes and resonance: Chaldni waves and Faraday waves" at IBA Sukkur.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the IBA Sukkur, school administrations, students, and everyone involved for their enthusiastic participation and support. Through such collaborations, we continue to sow the seeds of curiosity and passion for mathematics.

We look forward to future collaborations and the continued success of Math Circles in Sukkur.
