Part of our Leadership Experience includes Peer 360 Feedback, where you are asked to evaluate each of your peers in terms of his or her performance in demonstrating each of the six values of the Program. This annual (or bi-annual for freshmen) process is important and critical to our individual, team and Program success… constructive, value-added comments are required in your feedback! It is about caring for each other that each of us can grow through discovering our “blind spots.” In your leadership career, it is your responsibility to tell the people you serve what they need to know, but may not want to hear. It is done because you care for them, and want them to grow. It is done with objectivity – focusing on the specific behaviors (e.g. loud and boisterous), attitudes (e.g. I am more important than everyone) or actions (not listening and talking over someone - and caring).
When the form becomes available for this academic year, you will be asked to keep the following points in mind when providing feedback:
1. First, all input will remain ANONYMOUS and CONFIDENTIAL. Your feedback will help your peers to improve their skills and adherence to the values of the Program, as well as contribute to their personal growth. Anonymity and confidentiality also pertains to the fact that all surveys should be completed by each individual team member and not as a group.
2. Second, all feedback should be accompanied by constructive feedback aimed at furthering the growth and development of the team member for whom the feedback is provided. The comments sections is the most important providing your fellow recipients the full benefits of ‘seeing’ and ‘hearing about’ their own actions and words and the impact that they have on others. Simply telling Mike that he is stupid doesn’t help Mike. He needs to understand what actions, behaviors and attitude he displays that cause the impact he is having. Make your comments rich and detailed. When you read the comments, you will be looking for input that helped you understand how you were perceived by others, so consider that when writing about others.
3. Third, it is a requirement to give your input on every member of your class as to whether the team member should remain in the Program or not. Please use the comments section to identify the specific actions, behaviors and attitudes that support your reasoning.
Peer 360 is an incredibly beneficial experience that will help you tremendously in the long run. Please consider its value and put your best effort into giving others feedback and taking the feedback given to you.
