At the Libertarian Party of Brevard County, we apply the principles of personal responsibility, fiscal responsibility, and voluntary cooperation to the real challenges facing Space Coast families, businesses, and communities.
BREVARD COUNTY ISSUES:
Brevard homeowners face among the highest property tax burdens in Florida. We support major reductions and strict spending controls.
End corporate welfare and special tax breaks for big developers
Support large homestead exemptions and assessment caps; as a transitional step toward the total repeal of property taxes.
Require supermajority votes for any new county taxes or fees
Prioritize core services and sunset ineffective programs
We reviewed the proposed budget for Brevard County, so you do not have to. Government spending directly impacts your wallet. Taxation limits your individual liberty. You must demand financial restraint from your local officials at the upcoming Public Budget Hearings (First Hearing Sept 8 at 5:05 PM, Final Hearing Sept 22 at 5:00 PM).
Last year, the Brevard County Commissioners approved a total budget of $2.5 billion for the 2025 to 2026 fiscal year. This spending plan included a $1.1 billion operating budget and a $482 million capital improvements program. The School Board of Brevard County adopted a separate $1.62 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year. This level of government expenditure removes capital from the private sector. The government takes your money to fund these budgets.
Now, local politicians want to take more of your money for the 2026 to 2027 budget. County officials are considering new fuel taxes to fund transportation projects. They proposed a Ninth Cent Fuel Tax (a 1-cent increase) that would generate $2.7 million. They also proposed a Second Local Option Five Cents Gas Tax that would generate $6.4 million for the county. You will pay these taxes every time you buy fuel.
We must reject any new taxes. You must voice your opposition to the proposed fuel tax increases. The county should sell unused land and buildings to private owners. The county must privatize public services to lower costs. We must eliminate funding for nonessential county programs.
The Space Coast thrives when entrepreneurs are free to innovate. We want Brevard to be the easiest place in Florida to start and grow a business.
